Introduction

I don't watch a lot of youtube. I do use youtube a lot, though mostly for ambient music when I'm busy working, or some sort of ASMR audio (rain, thunder, white noise; NOT voice acting) when I'm trying to sleep. As such, my experience with a lot of the typically well-known and/or popular youtubers is minimal. I'm not aware of the drama, or the landscape, or of very much outside of the select few I subscribe to.

This page exists for those select few, elaborating on why I enjoy the content enough to subscribe to when I otherwise don't, and to maybe share some new media for you to enjoy too! All stat information included reflects only at the time of posting this page.

We're all aware of what a let's player is, right? If not, it's simply someone who plays games and records their reactions to the gameplay, whether with their face shown or not. BG64 does include face cam, which is typically something I don't enjoy. I'd rather not see the person behind the screen, left only with the comfortable distance that voice alone provides. I have since learnt to enjoy BG's face cam though, because he puts a lot of effort into exaggeration and being extra expressive with his facial expressions, in a manner that I find incredibly funny!

The main content you'll find on his profile are horror games, and I find that he's typically the first to play a lot of new releases, even when they're more indie focused like on itch.io for example. He is always, without a doubt, positive in every single video too—even in the event that a game isn't that fun or leaves a bad taste for whatever reason, his criticisms are always well mannered and focused more on being constructive, remaining positive throughout.

Ah... And I'd be remiss not to mention the buddy time he does at the start of every single video. I'd encourage you to click on any video at present, and just listen to the first minute or two for your own enjoyment... These buddy times are what first caught my interest regarding his channel, and play a big role in why I've stuck around. I never skip those buddy times, as listening along provides me with great comfort always. Not in a parasocial way, but to know that someone so far and unconnected from me is feeling a lot of the same as myself is incredibly comforting. A reminder that the world is small, and to appreciate that fact.

He's also the only person I've ever enjoyed watching streams of. They're always such a positive experience, and though I only lurk, watching him and his chat interact fills me with some hope. He's family friendly, encouraging, positive, relatable, and a genuine joy to watch. My number one most fav channel to tune into on youtube! BG, thank you for all of the entertaining late nights!

Another let's player! But this time, for mystery games!

I must admit, what drew me to this channel specifically was that it hosted one of the only full length playthroughs of my ult most fav game ever: Paradise Killer. There are some other playthroughs on youtube, but they either have no voice (the reactions are what I want), or they give up mid way through the game and drop it. V4H, however, has a full eleven hours of playthrough, complete with voice and face that makes the watching experience all the more satisfying for me.

I think I've watched that video eight times already, from start to end...

What kept me around is the sheer length of the videos uploaded to this channel. Ranging from one hour all the way up to ten, I seriously appreciate the amount of work and effort that goes into each video. They keep me company during the night as I put one on to sleep to, or on my second monitor when I want to watch something engaging but not distracting enough from my work.

I enjoy the personality behind this channel a lot too. Smart and quick-witted, really good at picking up on clues and solving mysteries before I even have a chance at considering what might connect to what! Cannot recommend enough if you're interested in dry humor, engaging discussions, and watching a mystery get picked apart lovingly. I recommend especially if you adore video essays like me, because there are plenty multi hour long videos here to enjoy!

As the name would suggest, this is a self hosted, one person radio show that I just so happened to stumble upon on the recommendations tab on youtube. But I'm so glad I gave the first video a listen!

Often, I am in the mood for music, but nothing I listen to is exactly what I want... It's a frustrating feeling, making me more and more irritated the longer I'm unable to find the right mood, or vibe, or sound that my ears want to listen to in the moment. However, with CCR, I never have that feeling! I know for sure that when I click on any video on the channel, not only will my ears be satisfied, but I'll find more new music and artists to enjoy!

Every time I tune in to this radio show, I am immediately filled with calm peace. The hosts voice is very soothing, and the selection of music provided always seems to be just the right mood for the moment. A truly eclectic range that often leads me down artist rabbit holes, a show that keeps me company most mornings, a host that encourages exploration and kindness.

There's nothing better than starting my day off with Club Carter Radio!

Flawed Peacock

The very first video of FlawedPeacock that I watched was 'IMMORTALITY - Story Explained' because my brother had started a playthrough and I was watching throughout, but they got bored and gave up, so I figured I'd watch someone else play it and get my fix that way. However, FlawedPeacock's video isn't a mere let's play... It is a complete and thorough dissection of the story, themes, characters, and more. Tying up every loose end as neatly as possible, all the while presenting with this sort of curious yapping conversational style that I really enjoy.

The channels bread and butter are absurdly long video essays. Complete autopsies of media, from games, to books, to movies. All of the media touched upon interest me, all media that I have personally enjoyed, so to watch them get completely broken apart brick by brick only to be rebuilt one by one with new understanding and appreciation is something I keep coming back to again and again. Just to enjoy the rambling connections and to see media I love put under scrutiny, under new light.

Probably my most watched youtuber overall, because I keep coming back to re-watch videos; each video takes a long time to be produced, so the update schedule is slow, but they're always worth the wait!

Fun Fact: FlawedPeacock is the only youtuber I've ever given money to LOL. I subscribed to the related patreon just because I wanted to support the sheer effort involved in the making of these videos. I don't even look at the update posts of the patreon, I just handed money over.

I really don't have much to say about this channel. It's just a music playlist channel, with custom made mixes posted on an irregular schedule. Like there are lots of channels like this, right?

This channel, however, owns my most favorite mix of music ever in the whole world... Like for two years straight, I have not once stopped listening to this one playlist! The others posted on this channel are all very good too, and I have not once disliked any mix shared here. Like it's all so good and the music really helps me focus!

Anyway that's it. Listen to my fav mix here if you're interested!
